The 6th Bourough
Behold! Amira gripped her brother Lucas tight as Times Square roared around them.
· 1 ·
"Mom said stay close," Lucas whispered. Amira nodded. "I just want one pretzel. One!"
· 2 ·
They turned one corner. Then another. Suddenly, the grown-ups they knew were simply… gone.
A giant toy store glittered ahead. FAO Schwarz! But the front doors were jammed with people.
· 5 ·
"This way," Amira said, tugging Lucas down a quiet alley behind the store.
· 6 ·
Between two bricks, something glowed. A crack. A door. A whisper of music drifting through.
· 7 ·
"Amira, no," Lucas breathed. But she was already stepping through, holding his hand tight.
· 8 ·
Behold — a sixth borough! Floating taxis. Pretzel trees. Children riding paper dragons through pink clouds.
A kind fox in a bowler hat bowed. "Lost ones! The way home closes at sunset."
· 9–10 ·
Lucas froze. "I can't, I can't, I can't." His hands shook like little leaves.
· 11 ·
Amira knelt down. "Breathe with me. You're brave. I've seen it a hundred times."
· 12 ·
Together they raced through markets and over bridges, the sun sinking lower and lower.
· 13 ·
The fox winked. "You've been here before, Amira. When you were small. You forgot."
· 14 ·
Suddenly she remembered everything — and led Lucas through the crack just in time.
Mom hugged them tight on the sidewalk. Amira smiled. She knew the way now. The End.
· 15–16 ·
Amira just wanted a snack. Lucas just wanted to stay close. But when the crowds of New York City swallow them whole, a glowing crack behind FAO Schwarz changes everything. Behold — a city no map has ever named!
