Fox and the Secret Spellbook

Fox yawned. He smelled pancakes. Same old Tuesday. Probably.

But the pancakes were flipping themselves. Nobody was holding the pan.

"Morning, sweetie!" said Mom, stirring coffee with her finger. It was glowing.

Fox blinked twice. He counted to ten. The finger still glowed.

· 4 ·

Dad walked in wearing all black. A wand stuck out of the toaster.

· 5 ·

"Mom? Dad? Are you... wizards?" Fox whispered. The cat answered, "Obviously."

Jade smiled gently. "We were going to tell you when you turned six."

· 7 ·

"I want to see EVERYTHING," Fox said. His eyes were huge as moons.

· 8 ·

Jim grinned. "Hold on tight, kiddo." He snapped. The kitchen folded away. They stood in a forest of floating books and singing mushrooms. Whoa.

"One rule," said Mom. "Don't touch the silver book." Guess what Fox saw?

The silver book. Shining. Whispering his name. Fox stepped closer, then closer.

His finger barely brushed it. WHOOSH! The forest spun into purple smoke. Fox was alone on a tiny floating rock. Mom and Dad were gone.

He thought hard. Analyzed. "Books open. So... I'll open my way back!"

He pictured home. He pictured Mom and Dad. He whispered, "Please, please."

· 16 ·

Tiny sparks danced from his fingertips. Fox gasped. "Wait. I'm a wizard too?" The purple smoke swirled back. Mom and Dad caught him in a hug.

"Surprise," Jade laughed. "The silver book only opens for OUR kind."

· 19 ·

Fox lit his pancake with a sparkle. Best Tuesday ever. The End.

Fox thought his parents were boring. Then he found the wand in the toaster. Then the cat started talking. Then things got REALLY weird.
